Tainan City

Anping Old Fort – a historical relic
Tainan holds an impressive collection of historical relics and temples for the cultural explorer to appreciate. Belonging to Taiwan, Tainan is the oldest city of the island and the fourth largest. Much of the history of Taiwan and traditional values stemmed from this city, whilst it still continues to play this role to this day. Heavily based on tradition and religion, it isn't uncommon to see locals visit temples that are hundreds of Years Old, just as their ancestors used to. The Dutch built forts that are in the ramparts of Anping Harbour are a great place to explore the historical culture of this nation. The night markets of Tainan will serve you a sizzling, delightful and exotic array of cuisine that can be found only in this region. Just as it is a great place to explore history, Tainan also has its fair share of swanky clubs and trendy cafes for the modern day traveller.
Known by many names such as Zeelandia Fort, Fort Anping and Anping Old Fort, is a defence mechanism that took ten years to build on the shores of Tainan. Built by the Dutch in 1624, the Anping Fort is a popular tourist attraction in Tainan. Standing as a testament to 38 years of occupation by the Dutch, the fort today is a great place to explore and appreciate the unique history and surroundings of the area. Visitors can explore the various buildings and courtyard of Anping Fort, whilst taking in sweeping views of the Suriname River.
Tainan is a great city to visit no matter what time of year, so book your Tainan hotel at Your Own convenience. I am heading to Taiwan Taipei on either 12, 13 or 14 Feb 07. I will stay for 14 days. My question is:?
Is it the good time to travel there during the Lunar Chinese New Year? I will travel from Taipei to southern city Eg: (Hualian, Tainan, Kenting, Taizhong, Gaoxiong and etc..) What is the weather like? What is the best transport to head South and back North? Is the Taiwan Safe? Any recommendation on Accomodation on the Capital & different citys? I am from Singapore. Thank you to any constribution and suggestion! Merry Christmas.
Kevin..
I suggest you better dont go during CNY! Before that is fine cos you can go their "Di Hua Street" to buy some goodies but during CNY, the shops etc would be close! No one out at the street..
Anyway, it would be kinda cold about 10-15'C, raining & the cold current might attack lol... You can either take train or bus to other parts of Taiwan! Please do not ever think of taking cab/taxi.. They might cheat your MONEY when they know that you are tourist.. No joke about this! Stay in the hotel ard Xi Men Ding lol.. Budget stay can check out at www.hostelworld.com & find "Taipei Station hostel" or "Happy Family hostel"...
